The hope is that this will give beekeepers a way to keep their hives from contracting American Foulbrood disease. Which would be great, because infected bees and hives typically need to be incinerated when its detected!
The way it works is the vaccine, which contains killed bacteria, is mixed into the queens feed, which is then consumed by the worker bees.
They then incorporate it into the royal jelly, which is fed to the queen. Once the queen has it, her offspring will gain some immunity!
And for those who might be worried, this vaccine is NOT genetically modified and can be used in organic agriculture!
